News from Manta scuba diving in Cabo...
Manta is becoming Nitrox Facility and we are glad to offer our
customers to join us and enjoy the innovation !!!
We will be offering:
Using
of Nitrox on our dive boats.
PADI Enriched Air(Nitrox) courses.
SOME BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT NITROX
Nitrox has been used for over 30 years for commercial and research
diving and is relatively new for recreational diving.
"Enriched Air Nitrox", "EANx" and "Nitrox" are
different names but the idea of diving with Nitrox means we will
be using 32% or 36% of oxygen instead of the regular 21% mixture.
Other mixes of higher or lower oxygen percentage can be available
as well.
THE PURPOSE OF NITROX
As every certified diver knows, decompression limits and the potential for decompression illness are caused by the inert nitrogen component of breathing air.
By replacing nitrogen in the breathing gas with oxygen, the diver's body absorbs less nitrogen for a given depth and time, so a diver breathing Nitrox 32%, for example, should have longer no-decompression limits at a given depth than when breathing air. If decompression stops become necessary, a shorter decompression schedule would be required. Alternatively, the diver could base his decompression schedule as though he was breathing air, with the reduced nitrogen acting as an extra safety factor.
In theory using Nitrox will also
reduce nitrogen Narcosis as the diver is breathing lower partial
pressure of Nitrogen than with same depth using air.
Nitrox is not intended for extremely deep diving.
Using Nitrox
The key words are "when used properly".
Diving with Nitrox provides longer no-decompression times compared
to diving with air, but its use requires training.
To simplify Nitrox use, Nitrox tables have been developed and
the use of dive computers with Nitrox is very common.
Nitrox also has its limitations due to partial pressure of oxygen
in the mixture, we will teach more about it in the Enriched Air(Nitrox)course.
Equipment Considerations
Standard air equipment, except the tank, may be used with any Nitrox mix, which has 40% or less oxygen without any modification.
NITROX RENTALS
Nitrox mix of 32% or less $16 usd a tank
A mix of 32-40% $22 usd a tank
NITROX COURSES
Enriched Air course $195 usd including book, instruction and certification
card.
Duration half day.
