SEA OF CORTEZ DIVING
Manta Scuba Diving offers expeditions to explore most of the southern Baja peninsula and encounter the diverse and prolific underwater wildlife of the Sea of Cortez in the National Marine Park of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. We also plan trips to the nearby areas of Cabo Pulmo, Gordo Banks and the East Cape.
The Sea of Cortez is home to almost 900 species of fish. It is one of the most ecologically intact marine ecosystems in the world. Here there is 34% of all marine mammal species, one third of all the worlds dolphin and whale species and a great diversity of macro invertebrates.
Desert cactii dot the sheer rock faces that descend into the blue of some of the most biodiverse waters in North America. Underwater topography is a mixture of sandy slopes dropping off to rocky walls, pinnacles with sheer sides that break the surface, oceanic seamounts and the most northernly coral reef ecosytem in the tropical western pacific.

CABO SAN LUCAS DIVING CONDITIONS
Water temperature and visibility while diving Sea of Cortez can vary from day to
day and site to site. While summer is warm tropical water, as the temperature drops during the winter, the number of unique species like; banded guitarfish, giant electric rays, nudibranchs, seahorses and exotic jellyfish increases. So do the size of the schools of snapper, grunts, jacks and grouper.
So we aren't always bathtub diving but the WOW factor for dive encounters tends to increase as the temperature decreases. Especially from December to March when the Humpback and Grey Whales are in the area. Oh, and Cabo averages only 6 inches of rain a year, so expect lots of warm sunshine!
Here are some general guidelines of what
